Rainy days don’t have to be a reason to ruin a grand vacation in Koh Samui. Even with the sun hidden behind the rain clouds, there are plenty of pleasurable activities visitors can indulge in to ride out the gloomy weather.
Play areal-life room escape game
Real-life room escape games’ popularity is gaining ground at most major tourist destinations around the world, and Samui Island now hosts two venues at which visitors can enjoy this challenging puzzle game. The goal of these games is to escape from a locked room by using various objects and clues in the environment. Situated in the compound of Beach Republic resort in Lamai, Escapology features two themed rooms – Cuban Crisis and Shanghaied – from which to escape. In Chaweng, The Escape Hunt Experience is located above Tropical Murphy’s pub on the beach road; three rooms that can host from two to five players are available.
Get a new custom-made suite at a tailor
The competence and professionalism of the tailoring shops established in Thailand (mostly run by Indian and Pakistanis natives) is widely recognised. In Samui, you can find tailors in all the major resort towns. You can get a custom-made quality suit or dress for a fraction of the price you would get it in Europe or the US. Do not hesitate to bargain hard (always with a smile) and to go for at least three fittings to assure that everything is done your way.
Take the children to fairways Samui
Fairways Samui describes itself as “an action-packed indoor adventure playground”. Located on the airport road, this 320sqm kids’ club, themed around The Jungle Book, permits children to freely enjoy themselves in a totally safe soft-playground under the supervision of professional staff. Meanwhile, parents can relax around a drink while checking their email at the coffee-shop available on site. The coffee-shop also has an all-day menu. Day-care and baby-sitting services are also on offer at Fairways Samui.
Fire a few clips at Samui Shooting Sport
Firing a few clips is a good way to unwind when one is upset by the bad weather, and Samui Shooting Sport is the right place to do this. Located on Samui Ring’s Road, a few hundred metres from Tesco Lotus, this modern shooting range hosts an impressive arsenal – from small .22 calibre to war weapons such as the Kalashnikov rifle – with which they can hit the targets. Professionally supervised, Samui Shooting Sport puts safety at the top of its priorities and gives wannabe sharpshooters a great place to demonstrate their shooting skills.
In Chaweng only, you can find up to 20 professional tattoo studios, and many others can be found in Samui’s prime destinations – Lamai and Bophut. Both temporary and permanent tattoos are available in most of the studios, and if you want to experience a genuine Thai tattoo, inked by bamboo stick, it is also available in many parlours. Why not bring back home an unforgettable beautiful souvenir of your holiday in Samui?
Samui butterfly garden
Located near Centara Villas Samui in the south-western part of the island, Samui Butterfly Garden is a family-friendly attraction that lets you discover butterflies and other insects in their (reconstructed) natural habitat. Set in a large open-air well-maintained garden covered with netting, the butterfly zone of the venue is indeed a lovely place. You could learn a lot of things and see the butterfly’s cycle of life – from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly – in this well-thought eco-friendly centre.
